Kano State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency

Dr Rahila Aliyu Mukhtar is a medical doctor from Kano State; she obtained her MBBS degree from Bayero University Kano. She has 17 years working experience in the health sector; Dr Rahila served the families of two executive governors of her state as personal physician to the first family and medical officer In-charge of the Government house clinic Kano. During this period she has received various commendations.

Presently, she is the Executive Secretary of the Kano State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency and Head of Kano Hajj operations Medical team. She was appointed by the Executive Governor of Kano State Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf in June 2023. Before her appointment as the Executive Secretary, she was the Director University Health Services of the Yusuf Maitama Sule University Kano.

Dr Rahila Muktar also served as a Project Director for Partnership for Advocacy in Child and Family Health at Scale/MWAN (MWAN PAS) project and Co Chair of the Kano PAS coalition. The project is an evidence-based advocacy initiative aimed to prompt both national and state governments in Nigeria to allocate sufficient resources for child and family health. She was a public health specialist and lecturer with Yusuf Maitama Sule University Kano.

Through these years she served the Medical Women’s Association of Nigeria (MWAN), where she rose from the chairperson of the young doctors forum to the Assistant Secretary General to the Secretary General to the president of the association in Kano State.

She strongly believes and work with the principles of Early detection and lifestyle modification in the management of Non-Communicable disease especially Gynaecology cancers, hypertension and diabetes.

As an active member of MWAN she engaged in community awareness, sensitization and screening of less privileged, displaced persons, prison inmates on cervical and breast cancer screening. She is also involved in giving career guidance and health talk on menstrual hygiene to secondary school girls .

Dr Rahila was a member of State emergency Routine Immunization coordination Centre (SERICC), she also Leads the conduct of research/assessments on Childhood Killer Diseases, Family Planning and Routine Immunization, support the State to develop RMNCAH+N strategy document and mentor Health Workers on Integrated management of childhood illnesses (IMCI) between 2019 – 2022.

She was a Team Member of the supervisory activities under the optimize integrated routine immunization session (OIRIS) Kano state primary health care management board.

Member of the Advocacy core group(ACG) under The Challenge Initiative project 2017 and received a commendation by DFID during the 2017 family planning summit/ child birth spacing week 2017 in Kano.

Dr Rahila is a member of Medical Women’s International Association, Nigeria Medical Association and Medical Women’s Association of Nigeria.

She has traveled to the United States, United Kingdom, United Arab Emirates, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Kingdom of Bahrain, South Africa, Egypt, Tanzania and Senegal.
